He never saw her face again until he passed away
She must have been a friend to him it was not his way to say
I’m sure she taught him common sense and inspired his tender side
His life would change forever on the day his mother died
His sisters must have reminded him of her smile and forgiving grace
They struggled through together when the days were hard to face
His father kept him busy at a time when a young boy cries
Life must have looked so hopeless through my father’s eyes
I want to see you again
I never really got to know him until he was twice my age
He showed me things about him and helped me turn the page
He taught me what to look for when Spring is on the rise
I saw the seasons changing through my father’s eyes
He dreamed about the deer and the hawk who to him were not so wild
He wrote about the rocking chair that rocked him as a child
The pictures that he took of life prove nature tells no lies
You could see the Maker’s blessing through my father’s eyes
I want to see you again
He spoke to those who govern and hang out on the fence
About the ways of the common man raised on common sense
He changed their minds if not their hearts and much to their surprise
They saw the right’s of nature’s plan through my father’s eyes
I’ve never know a stronger man who kept so much inside
And if Heaven ever greeted one it did the day he died
Sadness overcomes me there’s a tear that never dries
And I miss him…I miss my father’s eyes
I will see you again
“Dear Donor – the New England Eye Bank would like to thank you for your kindness and consideration at a time which must have been filled with grief…two corneal transplants have been performed as a result of your father’s generous donation. It should not be long before two very grateful people can see again.”
I can see you again
I can see through my father’s eyes
